Rose Byrne has expressed admiration for her co-star A$AP Rocky’s captivating presence while filming “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” The 46-year-old actress plays Linda, who forms a bond with Rocky’s character, a motel superintendent. Although audiences may anticipate a romantic twist in their relationship, Byrne emphasizes that the film avoids falling into that cliché.

In an interview with Australia’s Marie Claire magazine, Byrne shared her enthusiasm upon reading the script written and directed by Mary Bronstein. “When the script came in, I devoured it,” she recalled, praising Bronstein’s ability to create a visually compelling narrative filled with humor. “Legs is such a tightrope,” Byrne added, highlighting the intricate balance of tones within the film.

The actress is particularly impressed by the film’s sound design. She describes it as “extraordinary,” creating an immersive experience that enhances the unfolding psycho-drama. The narrative is solely seen through Linda’s eyes, leaving audiences unsure of what is real and what is imagined. “There are a lot of horror tropes in there, but also such gallows humour. It defies a lot of genres,” Byrne remarked, noting the film’s innovative storytelling approach.

Byrne is also proud to be part of a growing movement in cinema that tackles the complexities of motherhood. She commented on the duality of mothers being revered yet often overlooked. One of her friends who saw the film remarked, “I feel so seen,” reflecting the film’s ability to resonate with many who experience the challenges of motherhood.

She argues that there hasn’t been much dialogue around motherhood from a female perspective, particularly from female creators. “I loved Nightbitch, I loved All Fours. We’re now seeing motherhood through the vision of female directors and writers, and I’m so excited for that,” she said, expressing her gratitude for the current cinematic landscape. Byrne feels fortunate to witness this shift, recognizing that previous generations of mothers did not have similar representation. “This is an extraordinary time, and I’m excited to be alive for it,” she concluded.
