Country star Riley Green will make his television acting debut on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff Marshals in “mid-April,” a CBS representative confirmed to Country Living, adding a new crossover moment between country music and one of television’s most watched Western franchises.

Green, best known for songs such as “Worst Way” and the chart-topper “You Look Like You Love Me,” plays Garrett, a former Navy SEAL who served on teams with Luke Grimes’s Kayce Dutton. In an interview at the Marshals premiere with ExtraTV, Green described Garrett as “troubled” and “vulnerable,” a character wrestling with the aftereffects of what he and Kayce experienced together. “As he shows back up, he’s struggling to deal with all that, and Kayce is constantly trying to help him and let him into that Western lifestyle and what they have out there as Marshals,” Green said.

While CBS’s confirmation does not specify whether Green’s role is a single-episode cameo or a recurring part, reports indicate he is a returning character. Marshals runs for a 13-episode first season, with the finale scheduled for Sunday, May 24 at 8 p.m. Episode 5 aired on March 29, which places Green’s mid-April arrival roughly around Episodes 7 or 8 if the show continues on its weekly schedule.

Green also hinted that his appearance will include some on-screen performance. “I get to play a little bit. Garrett does play a little guitar,” he told ExtraTV, raising the possibility that Green may contribute musically to the country-leaning series soundtrack. The singer stopped short of confirming any new music releases tied to the show but suggested he will be performing in character.

The actor-singer admitted the crossover into scripted television was daunting. “It was a brand new thing for me. It was a big learning curve, and I’m glad they were patient with me,” Green said, noting that while live concerts no longer make him nervous, stepping into an acting role required a different preparation. He called Garrett a “great character” to inhabit and spoke about working to reach the emotional place required for the role.

Marshals, a Taylor Sheridan creation that expands the Yellowstone universe, brought Luke Grimes back as Kayce for its premiere season and has attracted interest for blending Western drama with procedural elements. Green’s casting continues a recent trend of country musicians appearing on television dramas, but his role as a conflicted former SEAL suggests a substantive part rather than a simple musical cameo, underscoring the show’s dramatic ambitions.

With Green due to appear in mid-April and the season concluding late May, viewers will soon see whether Garrett’s return deepens the series’ exploration of veteran trauma and small-town redemption—or whether Green’s on-screen guitar work will also yield new music for his fans.
