Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has addressed public concerns regarding perceived delays in the investigation of the Richard Mock case, asserting that such claims lack foundation. He clarified that the investigation by the Police Force has been completed and the relevant file has been submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Amidst increasing scrutiny from the public, Tudravu emphasized that allegations of police involvement in any delays are misplaced. He assured that the police have successfully fulfilled their responsibilities and are now waiting for the DPP’s decision regarding potential charges.

“It’s already with the DPP. People are asking me, why can’t you go to the DPP? I’m not going to the DPP. I discussed with the DPP. DPP is an independent body. People need to know that,” Tudravu explained. He further elaborated that the police cannot interfere with the processes of the DPP and will adhere to its guidance moving forward.

The investigation centers on the tragic discovery of Mock’s body in a vacant lot in Nasau, Nadi, last year. The 35-year-old was last known to have been in contact with officers from the Namaka Police Station, and these officers have since participated in video-recorded interviews as part of the investigation.

As the case now enters a critical stage with the DPP, both the police and the community are encouraged to exercise patience as the legal processes unfold. This situation serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of checks and balances within the justice system, emphasizing the necessity of respecting due process. The community remains hopeful for clarity and justice as the investigation continues to advance.
