The government has begun distributing non-food supplies to evacuation centers throughout the Western Division, aimed at assisting families who have opted to stay in their homes. Presently, there are 27 active evacuation centers in the region as authorities monitor the aftermath of recent weather-related disruptions.

Elimi Rokoduru, the Divisional Planning Officer for the West, confirmed this information, noting that while some centers have been closed, others remain operational, accommodating a total of 701 evacuees. Reports indicate that Nadi hosts the highest concentration of these active centers, with Ba, Lautoka, and Sigatoka following closely.

Mr. Rokoduru pointed out that Malele in Sigatoka is among the most severely affected areas and is prioritized for structured support. He stressed the significance of evacuees staying in official centers to facilitate the collection of necessary resources and ensure proper assistance.

Currently, fewer than five schools are serving as evacuation centers, and officials express optimism about clearing these facilities soon. Mr. Rokoduru has requested patience from the community as teams work tirelessly to meet the needs of those impacted by the recent severe weather conditions.

This proactive response from the government underscores its commitment to supporting displaced residents and showcases ongoing efforts to provide relief during challenging times.
