The Cincinnati Reds have strengthened their outfield by trading for Dane Myers from the Miami Marlins, sending minor league outfielder Ethan O’Donnell in return. Myers made his debut on the Marlins’ Opening Day roster last season, showing versatility by playing 68 games in center field, 31 in right field, and 11 in left field, posting a batting line of .235/.291/.326 over 106 games.
At 29 years of age, Myers has an interesting journey, having been claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox in December 2022. He made an immediate impact by setting a team record with 16 hits in his first 10 games with the Marlins.
Ethan O’Donnell, the player heading to Miami, was selected by the Reds in the sixth round of the 2023 draft and spent the previous season with Double-A Chattanooga, where he demonstrated potential.
Additionally, to accommodate this new acquisition and maintain a full 40-man roster, the Reds designated pitcher Lyon Richardson for assignment. This move marks the second addition to the Reds’ outfield in one day, following the signing of free-agent JJ Bleday, indicating a strategic push to enhance their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
The Reds’ proactive approach to bolstering their roster could signal an exciting season ahead for fans, as they seek to improve their performance and competitiveness in the league.
