In a thrilling encounter, Suva’s Pacific Specialist Healthcare/Nadera Buses Combine Brothers team edged out Nasinu’s Friends United FC with a 3-2 victory in the Dayal’s Sawmillers National Club Championship, held at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa. The match was fiercely contested, with both teams showcasing their strengths, leading to a halftime score of 2-2.

The turning point came when Friends United was reduced to ten men after Joseph Mishra received a red card for his second booking. This shift in dynamics allowed Combine Brothers to capitalize on their numerical advantage. The decisive goal arrived in the 77th minute, delivered by Neerav Goundar, securing a crucial win for the Suva side.

Despite the loss, Friends United put forth a commendable performance. Team secretary Kapil Swami expressed immense pride in the history of Combine Brothers, noting their qualification for the National Club Championship after more than a decade. “It has been over 10 years since we qualified for the National Club Championship, and we are very proud of our history,” Swami stated. He acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the players, many of whom hail from the Samabula area, and expressed gratitude to the long-standing supporters who have been backing the team throughout the years.

Swami also reminisced about the challenges the team faced leading up to the championship, emphasizing their resilience during the Southern zone play-offs, where injuries tested their resolve. “Last week we came through the Southern zone play-offs, and it was a bit tough for us, especially with a few injuries, but I believe the results today were great from the boys,” he said. Before the match, Swami’s words to the players were to give their all on the field, and he expressed admiration for their unwavering effort throughout the season.

He concluded by thanking the players for their commitment and acknowledging the support of their sponsors, Pacific Specialist Healthcare and Nadera Buses Limited. Looking ahead, the team is set to face 4R FC tomorrow at 12 PM for their next match. This victory not only boosts the team’s morale but also highlights their journey and determination in the tournament.
