Residents of Navatusila and Magodro in the highlands of Ba and Navosa have much to celebrate with the launch of the $5.4 million Navatusila Grid Extension Project. This significant initiative, fully funded by the government, promises to enhance the quality of life for the local community by providing reliable electricity. The project directly impacts 407 households, benefiting approximately 2,035 individuals, and reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development and equal access to essential services.
Local villager Adi Kaveni Salaivalu expressed her joy, stating that the project has dramatically changed daily living for families in the area. She noted the darkness that once enveloped the roads has been replaced with light, making home life more manageable. The introduction of electricity has simplified tasks such as washing school uniforms for students who travel back and forth from home, as well as eased cooking and baking for women through the use of electric stoves. Salaivalu conveyed deep gratitude to the government for this opportunity, particularly as their community resides in a more remote and highland region.
Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau emphasized the project’s importance, highlighting a total government investment of $5.4 million in grid expansion and wiring, along with an additional $300,000 earmarked for house wiring to ensure safe and dependable electricity connections. The project, which commenced implementation earlier this year, now enables residents to enjoy reliable power for lighting, household appliances, and income-generating activities, ultimately improving the overall well-being of the community.
This development not only brings immediate benefits but also opens new opportunities for economic growth and a better quality of life for the families in these highland areas. The investment in infrastructure marks a hopeful step towards a brighter future for the residents of Navatusila and Magodro.
