Plymouth police have released additional details regarding an incident involving a reported kidnapping of a federal agent on Wednesday afternoon. The situation unfolded around 2:50 p.m. when a Plymouth police officer was alerted to an ongoing abduction involving a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent. The agent was said to be in a suspect’s vehicle which was rapidly fleeing the area near Highway 169 and 42nd Avenue.
Simultaneously, dispatch received a call from the driver of the vehicle, who indicated they were heading to the Plymouth Police Department. The situation escalated as the vehicle ultimately arrived at the New Hope Police Department, where the HSI agent was safely secured.
During the initial response, one individual from the vehicle attempted to evade police but was later located. It remains unclear whether this person was taken into custody. Additionally, upon reaching the police department, authorities found a woman in distress in the car.
The police report noted that the responding officers had to withdraw from the situation, as their responsibility is primarily focused on state and local laws. For further inquiries into the incident, the city of Plymouth has directed the public to reach out to an FBI public affairs officer for clarification and information.
This incident highlights the critical collaboration between local and federal law enforcement in addressing issues of public safety and ensuring the well-being of agents in distress.
