Peacock is set to breathe new life into the classic Joe Dante film, The ‘Burbs, with an exciting new television adaptation. Following the release of its full trailer almost a month ago, the streamer has ramped up its promotional efforts, recently unveiling a Super Bowl TV spot featuring the recognizable voice of Keith Morrison from Dateline. In a nod to Bill Hader’s popular impression of Morrison, the spot showcases the host indulging in a snack as he delivers his signature crime reporting style. Fans can look forward to binge-watching all eight episodes when they hit Peacock on Sunday, February 8.

The reimagined series features Keke Palmer, known for her role in Nope, who not only stars but also serves as an executive producer. She is joined by a talented cast that includes Jack Whitehall, Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, Kapil Talwalkar, Haley Joel Osment, RJ Cyler, Justin Kirk, Kyrie McAlpin, Danielle Kennedy, and Randy Oglesby.

Celeste Hughey, known for her work on Palm Royale and Dead to Me, is at the helm as writer and executive producer. Set in a contemporary suburban setting, The ‘Burbs centers on a young couple, with Palmer portraying the wife, who returns to her husband’s (played by Whitehall) childhood home. Their seemingly peaceful lives are upended when new neighbors move in next door, unearthing long-buried secrets of the cul-de-sac and introducing perilous new threats.

The show’s production involved notable figures including Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, Natalie Berkus for Imagine Entertainment, Seth MacFarlane, and others from Fuzzy Door. The first episode was directed by Nzingha Stewart, who also acts as an executive producer. Notably, filming took place at the original location used for the film, Universal Studios Hollywood, creating an authentic connection to its predecessor.

Joe Dante himself commented on the news of the series, expressing his skepticism about how a full TV series could be derived from the original story but wishing the team success in their creative endeavor. With its combination of nostalgia and modern storytelling, The ‘Burbs is poised to capture both new viewers and longtime fans of the classic film.
