HARARE: Pakistan’s U19 cricket team showcased a remarkable performance, claiming a decisive victory over New Zealand U19 in the 31st One Day International of the Super Six stage. They successfully chased down a modest target of 110 runs with seven wickets to spare.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Pakistan’s bowlers immediately exerted pressure on the New Zealand batsmen, who struggled to find their footing throughout their innings. The outstanding bowling duo of Abdul Subhan and Ali Raza played a crucial role in dismantling the New Zealand lineup. Subhan took four wickets, while Raza secured three, effectively crippling their batting order. Raza’s key dismissals included central figures like Marco William Alpe (2), Snehith Reddy (6), and Brandon Nicholas Matzopoulos, who unfortunately went out without scoring. Subhan added to the chaos by taking down Jacob James Cotter (2), Jaskaran Sandhu (0), and Mason Clarke, leaving New Zealand bowled out for a mere 110 runs in just 28.3 overs.
In response, Pakistan U19 batted with poise and confidence. Opener Sameer Ahmed Minhas delivered an impressive performance, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls, featuring 10 fours and two sixes. His solid innings set the tone for the chase, while fellow opener Hamza Zahoor contributed with a brief but valuable eight runs, including two boundaries, to maintain the early momentum.
With the middle-order batsmen Usman Khan (15 off 24 balls) and team captain Farhan Yousaf (11 off 9 balls) leading the way, Pakistan comfortably edged closer to their target. The chase was sealed with contributions from the extras given away by New Zealand, resulting in a convincing win for the Green Shirts.
This emphatic victory not only affirmed Pakistan U19’s dominance in the tournament but also solidified their standing in the Super Six stage as they continue their pursuit of success. Such strong performances instill hope and confidence in the team as they advance further in the competition.
