The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) is poised to strengthen regional unity in the upcoming year by committing to the objectives set forth in the 2050 Strategy, which places a strong emphasis on peace, external engagement, and global advocacy. Baron Waqa, the PIF Secretary General, underscored the importance of unity amid the increasingly complex geostrategic challenges faced by the region, indicating that the PIF is the foremost platform for political dialogue and collective decision-making.

This year, regional leaders have taken significant steps to advance the Blue Pacific vision through the newly established Ocean of Peace Declaration. This declaration showcases the region’s commitment to fostering peace, stability, and open lines of communication. As efforts transition into the next phase, the focus will shift towards implementing the Ocean of Peace Declaration while actively engaging with member states, partners, and various regional institutions.

In addition, the PIF has made notable progress in various critical areas throughout the year, including enhancing climate resilience, improving economic connectivity, and promoting regional cooperation. The organization is also reviewing its administrative framework to further boost its effectiveness. Waqa emphasized that PIF’s forthcoming efforts will prioritize practical implementation and deeper regional integration, ensuring that climate resilience, economic connectivity, and the strengthening of regional systems remain central to its agenda.

Furthermore, the PIF will aim to advance global engagement and advocacy in line with the 2026 Leaders Policy, which seeks to align partnerships with regional priorities, bolster unity, and uphold the integrity of the Pacific Islands. This sustained emphasis on cooperation and proactive initiatives underscores the PIF’s commitment to the shared future and stability of the region, offering a hopeful outlook for continued collaboration among Pacific Island nations.
