Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine held a press conference on Monday morning, providing updates on the ongoing military operation against Iran, which has now entered its third day. This operation, known as Operation Epic Fury, aims to neutralize Iran’s military capabilities, with Hegseth emphasizing a “laser-focused” mission.
“The goals are clear: destroy Iranian missiles, eliminate missile production, dismantle their navy and security infrastructure, ensuring they will never possess nuclear weapons,” Hegseth stated.
Tragically, the Pentagon reported the death of a fourth American service member involved in the mission, following the loss of three others in Kuwait over the weekend. The situation escalated further on Monday when Kuwait shot down three U.S. F-15s in what was described as a “friendly fire incident,” though all crew members were reported safe. Concurrently, smoke was observed rising from the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait after an apparent missile strike believed to be from Iran.
The conflict has inflicted significant casualties, with at least 11 individuals killed in Israel and the Iranian Red Crescent reporting 555 fatalities in Iran.
President Trump reaffirmed on Sunday that the joint military operation would persist until all objectives are met, suggesting this could occur in “four weeks or less,” while also acknowledging the potential for further American casualties.
This operation has marked a significant escalation in U.S. and Israeli military engagement in the region, with strikes including an attack on the compound of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran, resulting in his death. As the situation develops, the international community watches closely, hopeful for a resolution but aware of the potential for increased tensions and loss of life.
