The Bureau of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors held its inaugural meeting at the OACPS headquarters in Brussels, beginning its term that will run until July 2026. This significant gathering was chaired by Ambassador Pa Musa Jobarteh from The Gambia, in the presence of OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Saleh Batraki.

During this important meeting, the Bureau discussed various key agenda items, including scheduling future Committee of Ambassadors meetings and laying the groundwork for the upcoming 11th OACPS Heads of State and Government Summit. Scheduled for March 27 to 29, 2026, the summit will be hosted in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The Bureau also addressed strategic issues crucial for the member states.

The Bureau is composed of ambassadors chosen by their respective regions to represent six geographic areas. This term’s lineup includes The Gambia as Chair and ambassadors from Ghana for West Africa, the Maldives for East Africa, Mozambique for Southern Africa, Guyana for the Caribbean, and Timor-Leste for the Pacific. Central Africa is still in the process of confirming its representative.

Additionally, the Bureau’s Troika features the outgoing Chair from the Solomon Islands, along with representatives from The Gambia and Ethiopia, ensuring a continuity of leadership and support for the Committee’s initiatives.

This inaugural meeting highlights the OACPS’s dedication to enhancing collaboration among its member states and shows a proactive approach in preparing for significant future events. The leadership transition reflects the organization’s commitment to addressing the evolving needs and aspirations of the nations it represents, bringing a hopeful outlook on its efforts to strengthen regional cooperation.
