The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, has announced significant advancements in the establishment of drug recovery centres designed specifically for adolescent boys and girls. After months of careful planning and preparation, the residential care facilities are now ready to launch.

A designated government property in Domain will serve as the location for one of these centres. In her statement, Ms. Kiran expressed her appreciation for the support and guidance provided by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, led by Atonio Lalabalavu, who played a vital role in this initiative.

“This project has required extensive planning and collaboration, and I would like to extend my gratitude to the Honourable Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon Atonio Lalabalavu, and his team for their unwavering support as we work to establish drug recovery centres in partnership with Empower Pacific,” Ms. Kiran stated.

Following several months of dedicated work, she confirmed that the residential care facilities are now ready to assist adolescents in need. In addition, a day-care recovery facility is expected to be fully operational later this month as a result of a year-long effort involving planning, construction, and training.

These new centres are designed to offer structured recovery and rehabilitation assistance to young individuals grappling with substance abuse. This initiative is a key element of the Government’s broader strategy to address drug-related issues among youth, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the lives of adolescents encountering such challenges. The establishment of these centres represents a positive development towards creating healthier futures for young people within the community.
