The strong relationship between Fiji and Japan was celebrated in Suva as the Japanese Embassy marked the 66th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito on Thursday. The event underscored the growing partnership between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Hiroshi Tajima, emphasized the enduring friendship shared by both countries, highlighting their collaboration in several critical areas such as climate action, infrastructure development, disaster resilience, public health, and education. He stated, “Japan and Fiji are cherished friends bound together by the Pacific Ocean and are important partners that share common values and principles, building upon the long-lasting trust and cooperation between us. Japan is committed to further strengthening the bond of friendship with Fiji.”

Ambassador Tajima also reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to working closely with Fiji and other Pacific partners to enhance peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region. In a show of goodwill, Kiti Temo, the Chief of Protocol from the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, extended congratulations on behalf of Fiji’s leaders and citizens, acknowledging Japan’s ongoing socio-economic support, especially through initiatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

This celebration marks a pivotal moment in highlighting the mutual respect and collaboration between Fiji and Japan, paving the way for future partnerships that can positively impact the Pacific region. With both countries committed to advancing shared goals, the prospects for continued cooperation appear bright.
