Police are reviewing the conduct of two officers involved in the apprehension of a suspect for alleged illegal drug possession in Nadi. This comes amid a reminder for the public to cooperate with law enforcement officials.

The incident unfolded during a patrol in Nadi when officers noticed two men acting suspiciously. One suspect fled the scene while the other was questioned and subsequently filmed in an incident that spread on social media. Police claim that the individual in custody was found with several sachets of what is believed to be marijuana.

Authorities state that the suspect’s lack of cooperation contributed to the escalated situation captured in the video. Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu remarked on the challenges faced by officers during arrests, particularly when suspects refuse to comply. He emphasized that the footage illustrates the difficulties inherent in enforcing the law under such conditions.

Commissioner Tudravu reassured that officers are trained to utilize reasonable force, but acknowledged that each scenario can differ, necessitating decisive action to restrain uncooperative suspects. He reiterated the police’s understanding of the repercussions of excessive force, noting that officers have faced legal action in the past for authorities misuse.

The Commissioner urged the community to work with law enforcement to prevent similar occurrences in the future. This poignant reminder highlights the importance of public cooperation in fostering safer neighborhoods and more effective policing.
