Landing lights at Nadi International Airport are back in operation following a significant disruption caused by a system failure related to a lightning strike. The incident led to several flights being diverted as the airport’s lighting system was temporarily incapacitated.
Notably, Fiji Airways flight FJ950 from Canberra experienced rerouting to Nausori Airport before successfully landing at Nadi International Airport. Other flights affected included FJ910, which was diverted to Apia, as well as FJ262 from Port Vila, also redirected to Apia. Additionally, FJ960 from Adelaide and Fiji Airways flight FJ274 from Tonga were sent to Nausori and Noumea, respectively. Flight FJ460 was similarly diverted to Apia.
This occurrence underscores the complexities airlines and airports encounter during weather-related disruptions, prompting Airports Fiji Limited to announce that a formal statement regarding the situation will be issued shortly. The prompt restoration of the landing lights marks a return to normalcy for Nadi International Airport, allowing travelers to continue their journeys with minimal delays. This event serves as a reminder of the resilience of airport operations in the face of unexpected challenges.
