Dozens of individuals gathered in Minneapolis last night, enduring freezing rain to pay tribute to Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman fatally shot by an ICE officer. The makeshift memorial was erected at the site of the incident, where Good’s car came to a halt following the shooting. Attendees honored her memory with flower bouquets and illuminated the area with countless candles. Signs proclaiming messages such as “Peace,” “Remember,” and “ICE Is Mafia” highlighted the community’s grief and anger.
Tim Ross, 31, expressed the significance of the gathering, stating, “If it can happen to this person, it can happen to anybody. It’s important to occupy a space like this, but it’s also very hard to be this close to an event that’s traumatic, not just to the person that experienced it, but to the entire community.”
Local resident Amalia Perrier, 23, shared her sentiments about the shocking impact on the neighborhood, calling it “terrifying.” She voiced her support for the immigrant community amidst a perceived increase in enforcement actions. “There are no words for how shocked the community is,” she said. “I think all of us are really fatigued and exhausted watching our neighbors being kidnapped and taken out of their communities. I think the least we can do is just show our support and show up.”
This tragic incident has resonated deeply within the community, sparking discussions about safety and the treatment of immigrants, highlighting the collective grief and solidarity that exist even in the face of fear.
