Miley Cyrus was celebrated at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s film awards gala held on January 3, where she received the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award for her contribution to the film Avatar: Fire and Ash. This marks a significant recognition for Cyrus, who was honored for her song “Dream As One,” which plays during the film’s credits.
During the ceremony, Cyrus humorously remarked about the lengthy development of the film, stating, “They worked on this movie for 16 years. I’ve been involved for like a month and I get to go to all the same events,” which elicited laughter from the audience. The award was presented to her by Jack Champion, a star from the Avatar franchise.
As she accepted the award, Cyrus took a moment to express her gratitude and appreciation for the team behind the film, saying, “Everyone on the Fire and Ash team has been so welcoming. And I just want to thank you all for recognizing their work that I’m totally backpacking off of.” In her speech, she emphasized the importance of storytelling in her music, stating, “Reinvention is something that I continually strive for in my music. Telling stories with honesty while still creating fantasy and then offering an entertaining escape.”
Cyrus co-wrote “Dream As One” with well-known artists Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, and Simon Franglen, and her inspiration stemmed from personal experiences, including the rebuilding of her home lost in the 2018 Malibu wildfires.
Reflecting on the gala, she described it as “such a beautiful and sophisticated event,” and humorously mentioned, “There are fewer drag queens than I like, but I’ll be stopping by Toucans on the way back to L.A. to get my fix.”
