The New England Patriots are set to face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, marking their first visit to Denver since the current season began. This matchup features notable rookie players including MVP candidate Drake Maye, who will experience the high altitude of Colorado for the first time as an NFL quarterback, and rookie kicker Andy Borregales, who is eager to prove himself at Empower Field at Mile High.

Borregales, a sixth-round draft pick, has had an impressive debut in the playoffs. He kicked three successful field goals in New England’s wild-card victory over the Los Angeles Chargers and went a perfect four-for-four on extra points in the following divisional round against the Houston Texans. His longest field goal in the regular season was an impressive 59 yards, which he achieved during Week 18 against the Miami Dolphins. However, with Denver’s altitude in mind, he is aiming to surpass that distance.

In an interview, Borregales expressed his strategy for the game, stating, “That’s my whole routine before a game — to see what my range is that day. I know it’ll probably be cold out there… I’m guessing maybe like 5-8 yards (added). Definitely going to try from 70 to see if it goes in with the cold and everything.” He also recalled that his longest practice kick in college at the University of Miami was 70 yards.

Having completed his rookie season with a commendable 27-for-32 on field goals, which translates to an 84.4% success rate, Borregales was honored as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 12. Excited for the upcoming game, he maintains a focus on his primary objective: winning. “Super exciting,” he remarked. “But at the end of the day, I’m trying to do my job. We’re all going in there having fun and trying to get a W.”

This intense matchup promises to be an exhilarating experience for both the team and its fans, as the Patriots look to advance in the playoffs while showcasing their rookie talent under challenging conditions.
