MILAN — The opening ceremony for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics dazzled attendees at the San Siro stadium, showcasing a vibrant blend of artistic performances, fashion, and a celebration of Italian culture. The evening featured choreographed dances, spectacular fireworks, and a medley performance by Mariah Carey, who sang Italy’s classic “Volare” alongside “Nothing Is Impossible.”
The iconic designer Giorgio Armani, whose legacy continues to resonate in the fashion world, played a key role in shaping the ceremony. The Armani company confirmed that Armani was personally involved in the concept design, notably contributing to the presentation of the Italian and Olympic flags. A memorable moment was marked by a giant screen displaying the late designer’s image as a guard of honor received Italy’s flag.
The ceremony seamlessly intertwined fashion with sport as 60 models showcased Giorgio Armani’s color-blocked pantsuits, representing the national colors. Among them was flag bearer Vittoria Ceretti in a stunning custom-made gown from the Giorgio Armani Privé line, which will also feature in the designer’s upcoming spring 2026 campaign.
