The Michigan Wolverines have appointed Jim Harding as their new offensive line coach, while also designating him as the assistant head coach, as reported by Pete Nakos from On3. This move comes as head coach Kyle Whittingham seeks to build a robust coaching staff.
Harding brings considerable experience to Michigan, having just completed his 12th season at Utah, where he was recognized for developing one of the top offensive line units in the nation. This past year, he coached Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu, both of whom earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and are projected to be high draft picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Throughout his tenure, Harding has helped numerous players achieve All-Pac-12 status, including notable names like Garett Bolles and Braeden Daniels. His track record highlights a consistent ability to elevate offensive linemen to elite status.
Before joining Utah in 2015, Harding’s coaching career included five years at Wyoming, where he held several positions, ranging from co-offensive coordinator to offensive line coach. His ties to Michigan are rooted in his past role as a coach at Troy High School, where he served as defensive coordinator and head coach. Additionally, Harding’s collegiate coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Missouri from 2002 to 2004.
A native of Maumee, Ohio, Harding attended Toledo and also studied at Missouri. He had a stellar football career with the Rockets, setting a school record for consecutive starts and earning first-team all-Mid-American Conference honors during his senior year.
Joining Harding in Michigan’s offensive coaching team is Jason Beck, serving as the offensive coordinator. The Wolverines will also retain running backs coach Tony Alford, while Micah Simon will step in as the wide receivers coach and Freddie Whittingham will take on the tight ends coaching role. Former BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill will also be a significant addition to the team’s coaching staff.
