Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross are separating after nearly a decade together, as confirmed by Page Six. The couple, who began dating in 2014, released a joint statement expressing their sadness at the end of their relationship but emphasized their commitment to co-parenting their 8-year-old son, Lars. “Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” they said in a statement to People.

Gibson, 69, and Ross, 35, reportedly ended their romantic relationship quietly about a year ago. They first made headlines in 2017 when they welcomed their son just days before Gibson received a nomination for the Best Director Academy Award for his film “Hacksaw Ridge.” Reflecting on that moment, Gibson remarked, “What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son?”

Despite maintaining a relatively private relationship, Gibson and Ross made several public appearances together, including their red carpet debut at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and an appearance at the Oscars the following year. Gibson also appeared with Lars at a screening of his 2024 film “Monster Summer.”

The family faced a significant challenge in January 2025 when they tragically lost their $14.5 million Malibu home in the LA wildfires. Gibson expressed gratitude that his family remained safe, stating, “The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way; that’s all I can care about, really.”

In addition to Lars, Gibson has eight other children from previous relationships, including seven with his ex-wife Robyn Moore and one daughter, Lucia, with former partner Oksana Grigorieva. The actor’s extensive family highlights his enduring commitment to fatherhood, and as he navigates this new chapter, he and Ross remain focused on providing a supportive environment for their son.
