The Golf Fiji Charity tournament held at Denarau Golf Club yesterday successfully gathered funds to bolster Golf Fiji’s preparations for upcoming regional and international competitions. The event saw Team Maui Bay crowned as the men’s champions, showcasing their skill and teamwork.
The Coral Coast team, consisting of Wayne Down, Noah Down, Jeral Sharma, and Ajnil Singh, clinched the title with an impressive score of 55.3. Close behind, Team Stiff Shaft secured second place with a score of 57.1, while Team PTRJ rounded out the top three positions.
Wayne Down, a member of the winning team, attributed their success to effective collaboration and determination. “We got lucky, made some big shots, and we’re glad everything came together,” Down expressed.
The primary goal of the tournament was to raise $20,000 for the national team’s training and competition expenses. Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra shared that as of yesterday, the event had already generated $10,000, demonstrating strong community support for the sport.
This charity tournament not only highlights the spirit of competition among teams but also emphasizes the importance of community involvement in supporting local sports development. With continued efforts, Golf Fiji is well on its way to achieving its fundraising goals.
