Marcello Hernández, a member of the “Saturday Night Live” cast and a graduate of John Carroll University, has announced the debut of his first stand-up comedy special on Netflix. Titled “American Boy,” the special will be available for streaming starting January 7, 2026.

In a heartfelt social media post, Hernández embraced his Northeast Ohio background, recalling how he began his comedy journey at the age of 18 in various venues across Cleveland. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received along the way, stating, “If you’ve ever been to a show, put me on a show, given me advice, or supported me in any way, THANK YOU.”

Since joining SNL in 2022, Hernández has gained recognition, particularly for his role as Domingo in musical sketches. His career has progressed notably this year, including the announcement of a scholarship at his alma mater that aims to assist students interested in comedy and entertainment. The Bo & Tom – Marcello A. Hernández ’19 Scholarship will not only provide financial support to one senior student but also offer mentorship from Hernández.

At just 28, Hernández has a diverse portfolio. In addition to his work on SNL, he has contributed to the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2” alongside Adam Sandler and has secured voice roles in “Shrek 5” and “The Angry Birds Movie 3.”

Hernández’s journey from local comedy clubs to the global platform of Netflix serves as an inspiring reminder of the potential for success through hard work and dedication. His commitment to giving back to the community through mentorship and scholarships highlights the importance of supporting the next generation of talent in the entertainment industry.
