LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A significant winter storm is bringing dangerously cold conditions to the region, with alerts in place through Tuesday morning. Flurries are expected to linger overnight as low temperatures dive to around zero, accompanied by wind chills that could reach between 5 to 10 degrees below zero.

Travel conditions are predicted to be extremely challenging, with a Cold Weather Advisory issued for Monday. Highs throughout the day are expected to remain in the single digits, with the potential for areas experiencing wind chills near or below zero. This severe cold is expected to persist into Tuesday morning, enhancing the risk for travel difficulties across the region.

An Extreme Cold Warning is active for Monday night, bringing with it anticipated lows around and below zero, particularly in locations with significant snowpack. Wind chills are expected to plunge even further, with predictions at 15 to 20 degrees below zero from Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will start with these dangerously cold temperatures, though afternoon highs are forecasted to be slightly better, climbing into the teens. Following this brief respite, another arctic front will sweep in on Wednesday night, which may bring light, accumulating snow and once again push morning lows below zero by the end of the workweek.

The effects of this weekend’s winter storm are likely to linger, with temperatures remaining well below freezing into at least mid-next week. Residents are urged to stay informed and take precautions to cope with these harsh winter conditions.
