England’s Lottie Woad delivered an impressive performance on day two of the Tournament of Champions, carding a three-under-par 69. This round has allowed the burgeoning talent to share the lead with renowned golfer Lydia Ko, a three-time major winner.
At just 22 years old, Woad, who transitioned to professional golf last year, has showcased her skills at the season-opening LPGA tournament held in Orlando. She built on her strong start, following up her opening round of 67 to reach an eight-under-par total, tying with New Zealand’s Ko, who also played solidly, posting a 67 after her initial round of 69 at the Lake Nona course.
Woad managed to record four birdies against a single bogey during her round. Reflecting on her performance, she expressed her determination, saying, “I looked at the leaderboard quite a lot because I was getting annoyed. The pins were probably a little trickier, so there weren’t as many birdies as [Thursday], so I just had to keep giving myself chances.”
On the other hand, Ko, who remains bogey-free after 36 holes, emphasized the challenges posed by the Florida course. The Olympic Champion, now 28, noted the variability of the course conditions, stating, “I think this golf course changes a lot depending on how the conditions are.”
As the tournament progresses, both Woad and Ko are poised for an exciting competition, and their performances resonate with optimism not only for their own careers but also for the future of women’s golf. Fans eagerly anticipate how the next rounds will unfold as these talented players continue to display their skills on the prestigious stage.
