The federal murder-for-hire trial of rapper Lil Durk has been postponed once again, with a new date set for May 4, following a recent ruling by a California judge. The trial, originally scheduled to begin on January 20, faced delays as other defendants requested a continuance. Despite Lil Durk’s objections and his desire for the trial to proceed on schedule, the court approved the extension due to the case’s extraordinary complexity and the extensive amount of evidence involved.

Court documents detail that the prosecution has amassed a vast array of evidence, including hundreds of gigabytes of digital content, audio and video recordings, and over 30,000 pages of reports and witness statements. These materials contribute to the case’s complexity, making it unreasonable to expect adequate preparation for the trial within the confines of the Speedy Trial Act.

Since his arrest in October 2022 in Florida, Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, has been facing serious charges. He is accused of orchestrating a plot to kill rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the death of his friend, King Von, in 2020, allegedly at the hands of Rondo’s associate. The plot reportedly resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.

This marks the third time Durk’s trial has been postponed, with previous delays occurring in January and September of last year. In an effort to dismiss the case, Durk previously filed a motion, which was denied last month. As he faces significant stakes, including his career and reputation, Lil Durk remains hopeful for a favorable outcome as he prepares for the upcoming trial.
