City of Miami Police have announced several street closures for the upcoming 24th Life Time Miami Marathon and Half, set to take place this weekend. Residents and visitors should be aware of the traffic changes to ensure a smooth experience during the event.
Starting on Friday, January 23, at 10:00 a.m., Biscayne Boulevard will see its northbound lanes closed from Southeast Second Street to Northeast Second Street, introducing a counter flow for traffic. Vehicles entering Biscayne Boulevard at Chopin Plaza will be redirected to the southbound lanes at Southeast First Street, reverting to normal traffic flow at Northeast Second Street. Southbound traffic on Biscayne Boulevard will remain open throughout this time.
On Saturday, January 24, at 9:00 p.m., all northbound traffic entering Biscayne Boulevard at Chopin Plaza will again be rerouted west on Southeast Second Street. Southbound traffic will be detoured at Northeast First Street, while traffic south can continue via Southeast Second Avenue. From this point, vehicle traffic on Biscayne Boulevard between Southeast First and Northeast First Streets will be prohibited.
Further changes will take effect at 10:00 p.m. when all northbound traffic on Biscayne Boulevard at Northeast Sixth Street will also be redirected west on Northeast Sixth Street. Southbound lanes on Biscayne Boulevard will continue to be accessible, while Port Boulevard will remain open for eastbound traffic on Northeast Fifth Street and westbound on Northeast Sixth Street.
On Sunday, January 25, road changes will kick in at 2:00 a.m. along Biscayne Boulevard between Northeast Sixth and Northeast 13th Streets, where all southbound traffic at Northeast 13th Street will be rerouted west. Northbound traffic from Biscayne Boulevard and the Port of Miami will also be diverted west on Northeast Sixth Street. By 5:00 a.m., citywide road closures for the marathon events will commence, with expected reopening around 2:00 p.m. except for the Biscayne Boulevard counter flow, which is projected to resume regular traffic by 5:00 p.m.
Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes around the area during this busy weekend, and Miami Police officers, along with personnel from other agencies, will be stationed at key locations to assist motorists. This large event not only promotes community health and fitness through running but also showcases Miami as a vibrant city ready to host such gatherings.
