LEGO has officially announced the release of the 11389 Project Hail Mary set, inspired by the upcoming film adaptation of Andy Weir’s celebrated sci-fi novel. The movie, which features Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace, is set to hit theaters globally in late March 2026.

This new set comprises 830 pieces, allowing fans to construct a microscale version of The Hail Mary, the starship where the protagonist unexpectedly awakens alone, later encountering Rocky, an intelligent alien engineer from Tau Ceti.

Scheduled for release on March 1, 2026, the Project Hail Mary set can be pre-ordered now through LEGO.com or at local LEGO stores. The set includes a minifigure of Dr. Ryland Grace, marking Ryan Gosling’s debut in LEGO form, as well as a buildable model of Rocky.

The pricing for this set varies internationally, with a cost of US$99.99, AU$179.99, £99.99, €109.99, and CAD$129.99, which has raised some eyebrows regarding its value compared to similar products. At 30cm (12 inches) tall and 22cm (8.5 inches) wide, some fans feel it is on the smaller side for its price, suggesting a price point of around US$79.99 would have been more reasonable.

The decision by LEGO to create a set based on Project Hail Mary signifies a commitment to original sci-fi narratives, rather than relying solely on established franchises like Star Wars or Marvel. Given that the film has yet to establish a massive fanbase, LEGO’s move is a considerable gamble, but also an exciting prospect for sci-fi enthusiasts.

Fans and collectors alike are eagerly anticipating both the set’s release and the film. As excitement builds around Project Hail Mary, it promises to be a thrilling addition to the LEGO lineup, showcasing the studio’s ability to embrace innovative storytelling in the toy world.
