As “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (SVU) gears up for its 27th season, fans can rest easy knowing the beloved series continues to thrive, paving the way towards a remarkable 30th season milestone. The new season premiered in the 2025-2026 lineup, showcasing various changes including cast adjustments and a historic first behind the scenes.

Notably, the series welcomed Corey Cott to its roster as Detective Jake Griffin; he has now been elevated to a series regular role, confirming the show’s commitment to evolving its narrative and character dynamics. This season also marks the return of Kelli Giddish as Sergeant Amanda Rollins, who is back as a series regular after making guest appearances since her initial exit in Season 24.

In a significant change, the series will have a new showrunner. Michele Fazekas takes over from David Graziano, who has helmed the series for the past three seasons. Fazekas’s previous experience as a writer-producer and co-executive producer during earlier seasons positions her well for leading the show, making her the first female showrunner in SVU’s long history.

The current cast remains strong, led by Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson, alongside Ice-T as Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr., Kevin Kane as Detective Terry Bruno, and Aimé Donna Kelly as Captain Curry.

As for the broader “Law & Order” franchise, the flagship show is currently in its 25th season, while the spinoff, “Organized Crime,” featuring Christopher Meloni, is now available on streaming service Peacock. The finale for Season 5 was released on June 12, with future season decisions yet to be disclosed.

As SVU continues to innovate and bring fresh storytelling, fans can look forward to new developments and exciting narratives in the upcoming episodes. The combination of new talent and a dedicated cast promises to keep the franchise alive and engaging for years to come.
