In an exciting match during the Dayal’s Sawmillers National Club Championship, Suva’s Pacific Specialist Healthcare/Nadera Buses Combine Brothers team triumphed over Nasinu’s Friends United FC with a close 3-2 victory at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa. Both teams exhibited their capabilities throughout the match, resulting in a competitive halftime score of 2-2.

The dynamics of the game shifted significantly when Friends United was left with ten men after Joseph Mishra received a red card due to a second booking. This crucial moment allowed Combine Brothers to take advantage of their numerical superiority, ultimately leading to the winning goal scored by Neerav Goundar in the 77th minute.

Despite the defeat, Friends United put in a strong performance that did not go unnoticed. Team secretary Kapil Swami expressed immense pride in the club’s storied past, highlighting the significance of qualifying for the National Club Championship after over a decade. “It has been over 10 years since we qualified for the National Club Championship, and we are very proud of our history,” Swami shared, reflecting on the dedication and hard work of the players, many of whom come from the Samabula area, as well as the support from loyal fans over the years.

Swami also recounted the difficulties faced by the team leading up to this championship, especially during the Southern zone play-offs, where injuries tested their determination. “Last week we came through the Southern zone play-offs, and it was a bit tough for us, especially with a few injuries, but I believe the results today were great from the boys,” he noted. As they prepared for the match, Swami encouraged the players to give their utmost on the field, acknowledging their relentless effort throughout the season.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the players for their dedication and recognized the essential support from their sponsors, Pacific Specialist Healthcare and Nadera Buses Limited. Looking ahead, the Combine Brothers team is scheduled to face 4R FC tomorrow at 12 PM, and this victory not only elevates their spirit but also underscores their resolve and journey in the tournament.
