KPMG Fiji has announced the retirement of Steven Nutley, a partner in its Audit & Assurance Group, after nine years of dedicated service. Lisa Apted, managing partner of KPMG Fiji, praised Nutley for his significant contributions to both the firm and the broader accounting profession in Fiji.
Operating from the Suva office, Nutley has been instrumental in mentoring both professional and support staff within the Audit and Risk teams. Apted highlighted his open communication style, pragmatic approach, and empathetic nature, which fostered trust and facilitated the professional development of many employees.
Nutley joined KPMG Fiji as a partner on August 1, 2016, after a career that began with KPMG in the UK. He has also worked in New Zealand and Central Europe, notably serving as managing partner of the Albanian practice before his retirement in 2015. Interestingly, Nutley returned from retirement to take on the role in Fiji while simultaneously competing in ironman competitions during his initial years there.
His impressive client portfolio has included ANZ Bank, Bred Bank, and the Fiji National Provident Fund, among others, spanning various sectors such as banking, telecommunications, and energy. In addition to his client work, Nutley has been actively involved with the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants, serving on its Standards Committee to enhance the application of international standards for the profession.
Furthermore, he has championed the implementation of the global System of Quality Management (SoQM) across smaller practices, which has played a significant role in raising practice standards throughout the industry.
Nutley’s retirement from KPMG Fiji will be effective December 31, 2025, marking the end of a notable chapter in his professional journey. His contributions to KPMG and the accounting community will be remembered as significant steps toward improving the standards and practices of the profession in Fiji.
