Paul Forrest, the general manager of the MODEL Towns Charitable Trust, has voiced significant concerns regarding the social challenges faced by families in the Koroipita community, located near Lautoka City. He underscores the urgent need for increased male responsibility and stability within households, particularly as Koroipita is home to many vulnerable families, including 57 single-parent households. Many of these individuals have sought refuge in the area to escape challenging past situations, including domestic violence.

In his remarks, Mr. Forrest pointed out distressing realities within the community, where some fathers have abandoned their families, choosing to pursue their interests at the expense of their loved ones. While he recognizes the momentum generated by social movements advocating for women’s rights, he emphasizes that addressing men’s conduct and responsibilities is equally important for the well-being of families.

Mr. Forrest advocates for initiatives aimed at training men to embrace their domestic roles, thereby setting positive examples for their partners and children. “A shift in male responsibility would create a stronger foundation for mothers at home,” he stated. He believes that when men take on their familial duties seriously, it empowers women to fully engage in their roles as mothers, allowing them to invest dearly in nurturing values and morals in their children.

Focusing on these challenges offers hope for a more nurturing environment in Koroipita, where families can thrive collectively, and each member plays a part in cultivating a brighter future. With collaborative efforts from the community, a positive transformation remains attainable, fostering resilience and stability that benefits everyone involved.
