The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways in Fiji has announced a significant boost for the country’s livestock sector with the receipt of $1 million worth of agricultural machinery donated by the Government of the Republic of Korea. Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna highlighted that this equipment will support farmers in managing feed shortages, which have been worsened by climate change and natural disasters. The machinery will facilitate better silage production and enhance feed storage capabilities.
Included in the donation are tractors, harvesters, and balers, all of which are expected to modernize pasture management, improve livestock productivity, and reduce reliance on imported feed. Minister Tunabuna expressed his gratitude to the Korean Government for their generous support, noting that this partnership will significantly bolster food security and improve the livelihoods of rural farmers in Fiji.
Acting Korean Ambassador Myongjun Kim reiterated Korea’s dedication to collaborating with Fiji to promote agricultural development in the region. The Ministry plans to integrate the new equipment through comprehensive training and extension programs for farmers nationwide, ensuring that local producers can maximize the benefits of these advancements.
