Ten months after its initial announcement, the highly anticipated horror project, originally titled The Horror Game, has undergone a rebranding and is now known as Kill Screen. The film, directed by Wolf Creek franchise creator Greg McLean, continues to star Ella Balinska, known for her role in the Netflix adaptation of Resident Evil. Excitingly, David Dastmalchian, recognized for his performances in Late Night with the Devil and Dexter: Resurrection, has also joined the cast.

Kill Screen is scripted by Gus Krieger, who previously worked on Would You Rather, and tells a gripping story of a young woman (Balinska) on a desperate quest to find her missing sister. Alongside her three friends, she becomes ensnared in a virtual reality horror game, where each level immerses them in a different subgenre of horror, from slashers to supernatural thrillers. The chilling twist is that if they die in the game, they face fatal consequences in reality. The friends must navigate this deadly landscape and confront its twisted creator, portrayed by Dastmalchian, to escape with their lives.

Produced by Tyler Condon of CinemaWays and Matthew Shreder of Concourse Media, Kill Screen aims to resonate with a generation steeped in horror and interactive storytelling. Condon asserts that this film is not only terrifying but also intellectually engaging and entertaining, offering a new perspective on the genre while paying tribute to its many facets. Shreder underlines the dynamic nature of high-concept horror in today’s marketplace, suggesting that Kill Screen expertly meets the demand for innovative and homage-filled storytelling.

As Kill Screen moves into pre-production, fans eagerly await what promises to be a creative and thrilling addition to the horror landscape. The collaborative effort behind this project aims to bring a fresh and engaging experience to horror enthusiasts.
