In Canton, a Lexus SUV linked to the controversial case of Karen Read is poised to be auctioned, with estimates suggesting its final price may soar into the six-figure range. This vehicle, which has not been driven in nearly four years, was seized by police in 2022 when Read was accused of using it to fatally strike John O’Keefe. After being found not guilty earlier this year, Read’s SUV remains in the spotlight as it prepares for sale.

The SUV, which has only about 12,000 miles on the odometer, was recently acquired by Bill Brusard, the owner of JB Auto Care in Weymouth. Following its purchase from a leasing company, Brusard’s team tackled various repair tasks to bring the vehicle back to life. This included replacing a damaged taillight and addressing a rodent infestation in the air filters, which had affected the car’s systems. Despite these efforts, the SUV’s audio and GPS systems remain inoperable due to damage sustained during the investigation.

Looking ahead, the auto shop has decided to donate all proceeds from the sale of the SUV directly to Read. This decision reflects an intention to support her after the court ruling cleared her of wrongdoing. The auction will be managed by Justin Manning, an auctioneer who noted that while a comparable vehicle would normally command around $70,000, the added historical significance of Read’s Lexus could push its value significantly higher. Manning emphasized the heightened interest surrounding the auction, suggesting that “the sky’s the limit” for the eventual sale price.

Although the exact date and location of the auction have yet to be confirmed, this unique vehicle is foreseen as generating considerable attention and excitement in the community. It joins a lineup of historically significant cars that have made headlines in the past, such as the infamous Ford Bronco driven by O.J. Simpson and the limo associated with President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. While the future of Read’s SUV remains uncertain, its upcoming auction not only highlights its unusual history but also reflects a broader narrative of resilience and support following a difficult chapter in Read’s life.
