The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has chosen not to comment on the recent appointment of Ms. Lavi Rokoika as the Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), citing the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding this decision.

In an official statement addressing public inquiries and media interest, the JSC confirmed that the legality of Ms. Rokoika’s appointment is currently under review by the High Court. The Commission noted that offering a public explanation at this time could potentially compromise the administration of justice.

“The JSC will not compromise the integrity of the judicial process,” the Commission emphasized, reiterating its stance against public legal discussions while the matter is still in court. It also articulated that its responsibilities are explicitly outlined in the Constitution. The process, as stated by the JSC, involves making recommendations to the President in consultation with the Attorney General, strictly following constitutional and legal protocols. The Commission pointed out that disputes should not be resolved through media debate.

Furthermore, the JSC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding fairness, independence, and the rule of law. It stated that public trust in the judiciary can best be sustained by allowing the courts to resolve issues free from outside influences. The Commission expressed its intention to fulfill its constitutional duties with integrity and independence as the court proceedings continue.

This careful approach reflects the JSC’s dedication to maintaining the judicial system’s integrity and ensuring that cases are adjudicated fairly and impartially.
