Almost two weeks after discussing his absence from ESPN’s College GameDay, former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel took to social media on Wednesday to clarify his relationship with the network and host Pat McAfee. He expressed that he’s on good terms with both following his absence ahead of the Aggies’ game against Miami.
During Manziel’s no-show, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso, who previously played basketball for Texas A&M, stepped in to fill his role. While Manziel didn’t provide a specific reason for his missed appearance, he addressed what he termed a “fake narrative” with a public apology.
In a message shared on X, dated December 30, Manziel stated, “I’m good with ESPN. I’m good with McAfee,” and invited fans to engage with Kalshi, a trading platform, to speculate on his possible return to the show. The platform currently estimates a 34% chance of his appearance on College GameDay next season.
He encouraged Aggie fans, stating, “Big things coming in ’26. I’m bullish on Texas A&M football and excited for what’s ahead. Happy New Year!” This enthusiasm for the future of Texas A&M football reflects a sense of optimism as the program looks to build on recent performances.
ESPN had originally announced Manziel as the guest picker for the latest College GameDay segment, which featured Alabama versus Oklahoma. Following his absence, host Rece Davis remarked on Manziel’s missed appearance, jokingly attributing it to a possible “bad breakfast” after attending the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua boxing match the night before.
Manziel’s openness and reassurances about his future could signal a positive turn regarding his ongoing connection with ESPN and involvement in college football coverage, keeping fans engaged and hopeful for more appearances.
