The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) conducted the Sidang Isbat to determine the beginning of the Islamic year 1447 H at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Minister Nasaruddin Umar explained that the decision to hold the meeting outside of their office was due to ongoing road construction on Jalan MH Thamrin in front of the Kemenag building.

He stated, “Due to the road project being carried out by Public Works, we have no parking, and it’s quite cramped. Therefore, we were concerned about the lack of parking space causing disturbances.” The event plays a crucial role in the Islamic calendar, marking significant dates such as the start of Ramadan and Idul Fitri celebrations.

The meeting is essential for determining lunar observations, which guide the Islamic community in Indonesia regarding their religious obligations. As preparations for Ramadan and subsequent festivities are underway, this Sidang Isbat serves as an important gathering for the country’s Muslim community.

This event not only emphasizes the importance of communal prayer and fasting but also reflects the resilience and adaptability of institutions in accommodating necessary changes. With cooperation and understanding, the Ministry aims to ensure that the spiritual needs of the community are met despite logistics challenges.
