Apolosi Lewaqai has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing both the Western and Northern Divisions during a critical transitional period for the government. This appointment by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development aims to ensure the smooth functioning of government operations and the ongoing development of projects in the Northern region.

Lewaqai steps into this interim role following the medical leave of the Northern Commissioner, Uraia Rainima, and the recent exit of Setareki Dakuiboca, the Divisional Planning Officer for the Northern Division. Minister Mosese Bulitavu, alongside Acting Northern Commissioner Lewaqai, convened with heads of government departments at Macuata House to underscore the government’s dedication to fostering development in Vanua Levu and surrounding maritime areas.

In addition to Lewaqai’s leadership role, the Ministry has implemented further interim appointments to support these changes. Mitieli Cama is currently acting as Permanent Secretary, while Josefa Navuku, the Commissioner for the Central Division, is stepping in as Deputy Secretary. Moreover, Mateo Naiveli, the Divisional Planning Officer for Central, has taken on the role of Acting Divisional Commissioner for Central.

These temporary adjustments are intended to guarantee that all operations, development projects, and disaster risk management responsibilities continue smoothly across various divisions. The Ministry has committed to maintaining consistent and effective services throughout this transitional phase, reflecting a proactive approach to ensure stability and ongoing progress amidst leadership shifts. This strategic planning not only addresses immediate leadership needs but also reinforces the government’s commitment to its developmental agenda, promising a bright future for the communities involved.
