Snow may not be a frequent occurrence in Horry County, but when forecasts predict a winter wonderland, excitement fills the air. Many residents have experienced the disappointment of expecting snow only to have clear skies. However, by Friday morning, forecasts indicated that a significant snowfall was imminent, sparking great anticipation among locals.

Heather Walker, the owner of the Mustard Seed in downtown Conway, expressed her eagerness for the snowy weekend ahead. “I really hope it’s more than a flurry. I’d rather get three feet instead of three inches,” she said. With three children eagerly preparing for the snow, they have already planned for snowball fights and building snowmen. Walker noted her son’s excitement, mentioning that he couldn’t wait to “kiss the snow.”

In preparation for potential disruption caused by the storm, Walker cleverly organized a “snow sale” at her boutique before the anticipated snowfall, offering a discount of 25% on all items. “The sale is really working,” she remarked. “If I’m not going to be able to work for three days, we need to sell now.”

Elsewhere, along the Conway Riverwalk, Kevin and Vicky Clayton took advantage of the dry conditions to complete their daily walk before the snow arrived. Describing the forthcoming snowfall, Vicky called it a “beautiful white blanket,” while Kevin looked forward to staying cozy indoors, reflecting on their enjoyment of watching the snow fall as they did last year.

Their grandchildren, however, had other plans, with Kevin noting, “My granddaughter said, ‘I hope we get to build a snowman.’” Indeed, snow days bring families together, and Samantha Norris, executive director of the Loris Chamber of Commerce, highlighted how a snowy shutdown presents opportunities for connection and community engagement in the area.

As Horry County prepares for this rare weather event, it fosters a sense of togetherness among residents, reminding everyone of the simple joys that come with a snowy day.
