A serious head-on collision occurred early Thursday morning on State Route 165 near Turner Avenue in Hilmar, Merced County, resulting in major injuries and a temporary road closure. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports at approximately 5:20 a.m. about a silver vehicle veering off the roadway, potentially into an adjoining orchard. Shortly after, it was confirmed that the crash involved a white Hyundai Genesis and a silver Nissan Altima.

By 5:47 a.m., authorities had blocked off the highway, prompting a swift response from fire crews from Cal Fire and Riggs Ambulance, along with tow trucks from multiple companies to assist in clearing the wreckage. The situation escalated to a major-injury incident by 6:28 a.m., suggesting that at least one individual sustained serious injuries. One of the vehicles involved was towed by AG Tow based in Hilmar.

Traffic was reportedly allowed to resume on SR-165 by 6:43 a.m. However, the identities of the individuals involved and their current conditions have not yet been disclosed. The CHP is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the cause of the accident.
