Prince Harry reportedly made an attempt to reach out to his estranged brother, Prince William, through a mediator, but the Prince of Wales declined the opportunity for a conversation. Royal expert Omid Scobie shared insights with Us Weekly about this failed reconciliation effort, which happened around the time Harry was writing his 2023 book, “Endgame.”

Scobie stated that Harry sought to facilitate communication through a mutual friend, hoping this intermediary would enable some form of dialogue between the brothers. However, he indicated that this effort went unacknowledged by William, leaving a “stone wall” between them intact. He remarked that without shifts in attitudes from both sides, a resolution appears unlikely.

The rift between the two brothers has been evident since 2020 when Harry stepped back from his royal duties and relocated to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle. In his new book, “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story,” author Russell Myers noted that William was “intensely saddened” by Harry’s departure, recognizing that their relationship had been deteriorating for years. Myers reflected on the once fond memories of their childhood, which were now overshadowed by the ongoing division within their family.

Additionally, Myers pointed out that Catherine, Princess of Wales, had less inclination than her husband to persuade Harry to maintain his royal role, believing that his decision to leave was inevitable.

In a recent interview with the BBC in May 2025, Harry discussed his strained relationship with his family, expressing that while there have been numerous disagreements, he has come to a point of forgiveness. Although Harry managed to reconcile with his father, King Charles III, during a visit in September, he did not have an opportunity to meet with William while in London.

The complexities surrounding the relationship between the two princes highlight not only personal issues but also the broader impacts of royal duties and expectations, underscoring the emotional struggles they face as members of the royal family. There remains hope that in time, conditions may favor healing and reunion, fostering a stronger bond between them.
