Harry Maguire, the England and Manchester United defender, has been given a 15-month suspended prison sentence by a Greek court linked to a 2020 incident in Mykonos. The court found Maguire guilty of various charges, including repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, and violence against public employees following an altercation outside a nightclub.

In the aftermath of the brawl, Maguire was detained for two days and has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Initially, he received a suspended sentence of 21 months and 10 days along with a fine. However, following his appeal against the multiple charges, he was granted a retrial, prompting the original conviction to be nullified under Greek law.

Maguire’s retrial has faced numerous postponements. Despite being convicted of non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery, he has avoided actual imprisonment and no fine has been levied against him. His legal team is reportedly planning to appeal the ruling to the supreme court as he aims to clear his name, having declined several opportunities to resolve the matter outside of court.

While Maguire was not present at court for the latest proceedings, he remains focused and has continued his preparations for Manchester United’s upcoming match against Newcastle. This determination reflects his commitment to not only his career but also to addressing the legal challenges surrounding him.
