Chinese linguist and literary translator Guo Xiaojing was honored with the prestigious title of “Knight of Universal Culture” in Budapest on January 17, 2026. This recognition was awarded for her significant contributions to fostering cultural exchange and enhancing mutual understanding between China and Hungary. The award ceremony took place during a gala celebrating the Day of Hungarian Culture at the Stefania Palace Cultural Center.

Guo, who serves as the director of the Hungarian Research Center at Beijing Foreign Studies University, has played a crucial role in advancing Hungarian studies in China and promoting academic collaboration between the two nations. The citation for the award emphasized her dedication to strengthening educational ties and cultural dialogue, establishing a robust foundation for bilateral cooperation in research.

In her capacity as the first Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE), Guo has been instrumental in expanding Chinese language education across Hungary. Her extensive career includes significant contributions to major lexicographical projects and translation efforts, helping bridge the cultural divide.
