Cooperatives in Tikina Vanuaso, located in Gau, have taken a significant step forward in improving their governance and management capabilities through a recent three-day Cooperative Management training held at Vanuaso Village. This training has proven to be invaluable for the participating cooperatives.

Semesa Tuibua, a representative from the proposed Kaivunimoli Cooperative, expressed that the training exceeded their expectations and will provide essential guidance for their early development. Similarly, Tirisa Maibau, a member of the Miramira ni Savuralele Cooperative, highlighted that the sessions offered crucial insights into member roles, accurate record-keeping, and the significance of having well-defined by-laws.

District Officer Gau Iliseva Salabogi commended the high level of participation, particularly noting the involvement of women-led groups. He also announced the recent establishment of three new cooperatives in the district, signifying a growing trend towards collaborative business structures in the area.

Makereta Ledua, a member of the Vanuaso Women’s Cooperative, shared how the training inspired her group to consider advancing their small shop into a wholesale trading operation. This ambition reflects the positive impact of the training on local entrepreneurs.

Salabogi framed the initiative as a significant move towards fostering stronger and more sustainable cooperative ventures in Vanuaso, which is likely to contribute positively to the community’s economic landscape. The enthusiasm and proactive engagement of members suggest a hopeful future for cooperative development in the region.
