Ailava Samuels, the representative for Fiji in the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2026, has turned her experience with cyberbullying into a powerful advocacy campaign for online safety. Facing online attacks in the lead-up to the pageant, Samuels chose not to withdraw but instead to amplify her message as an Ambassador for Online Safety.
Understanding the damaging impact of harmful digital behavior, she remarked, “I know firsthand how damaging online attacks can be. But I also know that we have the power to change the narrative around digital behavior in our Pacific communities.” Her journey has deepened her resolve to promote accountability and respect in online interactions, recognizing the urgency of this issue across the region.
Samuels emphasizes the importance of speaking out against cyberbullying, stating, “Cyberbullying thrives in silence and anonymity. But when we speak up and model respectful online engagement, we create safer digital spaces for everyone – especially our young people.” As the eldest of seven and with strong family ties to Samoa, she embodies resilience and leadership, using her faith-based approach to navigate challenges.
