Clouds are expected to blanket the region tonight as a cold front approaches, setting the stage for a chance of showers on Wednesday and ushering in significantly colder temperatures that are projected to persist through Monday.

Residents are urged to prepare for potentially harsh conditions as Freeze Warnings are anticipated until Monday. A Freeze Warning is declared when temperatures drop to 32 degrees for a sustained period, while a Hard Freeze Warning would indicate temperatures plunging to 28 degrees or lower for an extended duration. With Hard Freeze Warnings no longer being issued, it’s important for residents to monitor local temperatures closely and take the necessary precautions as preparation can take time.

Meteorologist Chris Holtzman has provided insights on how to adequately prepare for the upcoming freeze, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding homes against the potential for burst pipes in such frigid conditions.

As for the weather forecast, Wednesday will be characterized by overcast skies with a modest chance of showers across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida, estimated at 20-30 percent likelihood. Overnight lows will dip into the 30s and 40s in southeast Georgia, while northeastern Florida will see lows in the 40s and 50s. Wednesday’s afternoon highs are predicted to reach the 50s and 60s, accompanied by a westerly wind around 10-15 mph. Some partial clearing is anticipated later in the day.

Looking ahead to Thursday, conditions will begin to improve as skies clear, but a chilly northwest breeze will persist with winds at 10-15 mph, gusting to 20 mph. Morning lows will again fall into the 30s and 40s, while daytime highs will only reach the 40s and 50s.

The weather from Friday through Monday is projected to be particularly cold, with some of the chillest morning temperatures anticipated, combined with the biting winds from the west.
