The Office of State Attorney Bill Gladson of the Fifth Judicial Circuit has announced the sentencing of 45-year-old Andrew Paul Johnson to life in prison for multiple offenses involving the exploitation and molestation of minors. Johnson was found guilty in February of this year on several serious charges, including Lewd or Lascivious Molestation of a victim under 12 years of age and another victim between 12 and 16 years old, as well as two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Exhibition and Transmission of Material Harmful to a Minor via electronic device.

The case came to light in July 2025 when deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a sex offense at a Brooksville residence. Upon their arrival, officers were informed by the complainant that two juvenile victims had reported being inappropriately touched by Johnson. The investigation revealed that Johnson had given the first victim a cell phone for the purpose of communicating, and law enforcement found numerous sexually explicit messages on this device as well as on the Discord communication platform.

Evidence gathered included explicit images and conversations that showed Johnson attempting to facilitate private interactions with one of the victims. Johnson encouraged the victim to download a separate application for further communications and instructed them to delete the messages afterward to avoid detection.

Interviews with the victims were conducted by law enforcement in conjunction with You Thrive Child Advocacy Center’s child protective team, revealing chilling details about the nature of Johnson’s actions. The first victim described specific occurrences and locations of the abuse, noting that some incidents happened in the presence of the second victim. The defendant allegedly attempted to bribe the first victim with gifts and food to ensure silence regarding his conduct, even stating that the victims should keep silent about these interactions to avoid him facing consequences.

The information provided by the second victim corroborated the first victim’s accounts, detailing instances of inappropriate touching and further affirming the disturbing pattern of Johnson’s behavior.

The successful prosecution of this case was carried out by Assistant State Attorneys Kasey Whitson and Rob Lewis, who highlighted the importance of protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes are held accountable.

This case serves as a sobering reminder of the necessity for vigilance in safeguarding children from harm and the critical role of law enforcement and advocacy organizations in supporting victims. Johnson’s life sentence reflects the serious nature of his crimes and underscores the commitment of the legal system to justice and child protection.
